About Us

Spiral Garden is an online retail business specialising in wooden toys, fabric dolls, quality art supplies, organic toys, natural gifts for babies, quality books (mainly Steiner and homeschooling topics), magazine subscriptions, natural craft materials, co-operative games and other gift items.

We try to choose products made from natural materials by ethical companies - WAHMs (work-at-home-mums) when possible. We stock some labeled fair trade products, and would like to expand as we find more of these. Safety is important to us so there are few products we stock with any painted finishes, and art supplies are as natural as I can find. As a bonus, these natural products are of the highest quality and so our family find they last for years - which is a huge environmental plus for families in today's marketplace. We are all tired of buying landfill fodder! When our products do come to the end of their lives, almost everything is compost-able and will break down and return to the Earth.

We have owned Spiral Garden for three years this year. We run it from our home in tropical North Queensland, Australia. Gary and I have six lovely children aged 6 to 15 whom we home educate. We have a hobby farm and grow a lot of our own food - there's a cow for milk, chickens for eggs, and a young fruit orchard, as well as three enclosed vegetable gardens.

Our family and home office strive to be as planet-friendly as possible. We choose recycled packaging over purpose-bought 'eco' options. So whilst bubble wrap and cello bags aren't our first choice of packing your orders, they are clean, recycled and re-usable. Please recycle what you can from our parcels to you. We also run on a percentage of green power (as much as our local electricity supplier offers), with low-energy options chosen within our home and office as well as practical measures to reduce power consumption. We have our own water supply and our rubbish and recycling (for a large family, farm and business) is removed only once every six weeks. We have planted a few hundred trees over the past three years, and continue to add at least 100 trees each year.
