Living Landscapes - Permaculture Card Game

Design and create together with your friends, an energy-productive and sustainable system to fulfil your needs.

This co-operative permaculture card game is an educational tool for sustainable living and gardening design. Living Landscapes is also fun to play and encourages discussion.

Many of us dream of having a piece of land. It may be large or small, a farm, a garden or even a window box. How do we start making a paradise out of it? With this card game we learn how every part of a landscape is connected with its surroundings. Sometimes this is not obvious at first sight. For example, leaves provide mulch matter instead of being considered as an annoying waste, some insects can be useful as predators on pests, they could provide pollination, or may be food for domestic animals such as pigs and poultry.…

This permaculture card game is a good way to learn and understand sustainable landscape design. It covers two important principles of permaculture and can be adapted to your own lifestyle by adding or leaving out some cards.

As a co-operative game, all players contribute to a common design. Each player adds their own ideas through the cards and the discussions the game tends to encourage.

Comprises of 52 original water colour paintings and 2 blank cards for your own input. The cards also have the standard symbols and numbers to play all your favourite card games.

For 2 to 6 players, from ages 4 to adult. Two playing levels: 4 - 7 years and 7 - adult. Large groups or classes can play with 2 or more card sets.

What is permaculture?
Permaculture is a design system that develops sustainable and energy-productive solutions, respecting man and nature.

Two of the many principles that can help us achieve this are:
- every element has more than one function (e.g. domestic animals supply us with food, manure, help control insects, control fire by keeping grass low, etc.)
- supporting our needs by more than one element (we can store water in various ways such as ponds, dams, rainwater tanks, swales etc.)

These two principles are the theme of the game.
Other permaculture principles include:
-respect for man and nature
-supporting local economy
-sector planning
-utilising biological resources
-recycling
-diversity
-turning a problem into a solution
